Recovery and rehabilitation
Return to activities you love!
Following your hip replacement surgery, your surgeon may recommend physical therapy as part of your recovery. In such cases, specialized professionals will guide you by creating a personalized rehabilitation program tailored to your condition.
They will support you throughout the recovery process, helping you regain hip mobility, improve strength, and restore balance, ultimately enhancing your overall quality of life.
HIP replacement recovery

Hip replacement recovery time varies from person to person and depends on individual health and the surgeon’s protocol.

Temporary hip pain after surgery is a normal part of the healing process. There’s no need for concern, as your body is adjusting to the new hip prosthesis.

Various medications are available to help manage pain during recovery. Your surgeon will guide you in choosing the most suitable option for short-term relief, which may include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
HIP replacement rehabilitation
Hip replacement rehabilitation, or hip replacement rehab, can begin as early as the day of surgery, depending on your surgeon’s approval.
If required, a physical therapist will guide you through specialized hip exercises to strengthen the surrounding muscles and restore hip mobility, helping you return to walking and daily activities safely.

After returning home, support your recovery by following your prescribed medications and continuing your rehabilitation exercises as advised by your medical team. Most individuals can gradually resume normal routine activities within 3 to 6 weeks after their total hip replacement surgery.

Once fully recovered, the majority of patients who undergo joint replacement surgery experience significant pain relief and improved mobility, allowing them to move more comfortably and participate in everyday life.

More than 90–95% of hip replacements continue to function well even after 15–20 years.
